002 Fast Thinking and Happy Father's Day

LOL Thanks V, gonna put this on my new fun site - fun.alexisaw.com

Happy Father's Day to all "old" men! (Father's Day is celebrated this Sunday in Australia)

&&&

An elderly man in Queensland had owned a large property for several years.

He had a dam in one of the lower paddocks where he had planted mango and
                               avocado trees.
The dam had been fixed up for swimming when it was built and he also had
some picnic tables placed there in the shade of the fruit trees.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the dam to look it over,
as he hadn't been there for a while.
He grabbed a ten litre bucket to bring back some fruit.
As he neared the dam, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.
As he came closer he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in
                                  his dam.
He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end.

One of the women shouted to him, 'We're not coming out until you leave!'
The old man frowned, 'I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim
naked or make you get out of the dam naked.'
Holding the bucket up he said,

'I'm here to feed the crocodile.'

Moral: Old men may walk slow, but they can still think fast.

001 Find your hungry crowd - Email from Business Academy Online

Hooray for the people at Business Academy Online!

I loved this email and was surprised to get an instantaneous, friendly response when i asked a question, despite them not knowing me from a bar of soap.

I guess all of us are at different points in our own "Discover Internet Marketing" journey; i get a bit stressed sometimes trying to deal with the tsunami waves of information that i think i should know, and this email's friendliness and simplicity made me smile.

Hope you like it too!

Subject: Find your hungry crowd

Hi alexis,

Nicci And Lee here. We can seen that you haven't yet taken
your internet marketing dreams and aspirations any further.
We would therefore like to encourage your participation in
your possible new lifestyle by sending you a 7 part
e-course named "7 Simple Steps To Get Started Online
Without Breaking The Bank" at no cost to you.

Now lets say hello to the 'new you' and a big goodbye to the
'old you'. Lets make life happen! Lets work out how you will
earn money online sooner, rather than later...Starting TODAY.

During your seven part series we will take you through how to
get started with Internet Marketing, Using a free website
(blogging), Utilising other peoples products (affiliate
marketing), Traffic generation (free and paid strategies),
and Email marketing.

Many people are unsure of how to actually get started online,
what to do and how to do it. There are four steps involved...

Your first step with online marketing is to IDENTIFY YOUR
PASSION.  What is it you enjoy doing, and would prefer to
do over anything else? This could be cooking, surfing,
swimming, socialising, music, you name it. Imagine going
to work every day and doing something that you actually
loved to do. I bet you would never feel that Sunday night
dread ever again, you would actually be excited to work.
This is why it's important to choose an area which interests
you so when you are running your online business full time,
everything flows easily and you will undoubtedly reap the
rewards with very little effort at all.

Your second step is to ensure you have a hungry crowd who
actually want to know about your passion. So how exactly
do you do this?

You will need to conduct MARKET RESEARCH to ensure you have
people out there who want to know about it and ultimately
buy from you.  A great way to conduct market research is to
conduct a survey. SurveyMonkey.com is a free site, which
you can utilise to conduct a survey to many people. In your
survey, you will want to extract information on people's
frustrations and also gauge how interested they would be
in your product.  Be sure to use mostly multiple choice
questions so you can analyse the results. Survey Monkey has
some great tutorials on the types of questions you should
ask.

And here's a fast and effective way to do your market
research offline. Next time you pass a newsagent, pop in
to the magazine section and see if they have any magazines
on your particular product. Chances are, if there are
magazines available then there is definitely a hungry crowd.

Your third step is to turn your passion into a PRODUCT. Your
product can simply be an informational site about your
passion such as a blog. Or a teleseminar. Or an ebook. Or a
comprehensive course worth $1000.

Your fourth step is to get TRAFFIC to visit your web page via
article marketing, youtube, social networking, search engine
marketing, google adwords, offline marketing and a range of
other mediums (Don't worry if these terms seem foreign to you,
we'll go into more detail about them later)

Here's a little tip you can take to the bank: one of the
easiest ways of ensuring there is a market for your passion
is simply doing a Google search on your particular topic.
Have a look at the competition and also have a think about
the types or products you could actually market on your site.
Is there someone who is already being highly successful in
your industry? If so this is a great sign, as you know there
is a market for this particular topic.

You have now identified your passion and you have also
identified what service or product to provide. But what
happens if you don't have a website?

When we started out with internet marketing we had no website
or product. We just knew we wanted to have a life without the
corporate balls and chains, and one where a lifestyle meant
freedom. Freedom to go paddling or do what we wanted, when we
wanted. Both of us are avid outdoor lovers, and reside in
Drummoyne, near the city but also far enough away to enjoy
the internet marketing lifestyle of freedom and paddling on
the beautiful Sydney Harbour. Both of us had a passion to
leave the corporate world and we realised our common thread
and made our business partnership grow in to the 3 successful
online businesses that have now blossomed. 1 of our online
businesses successfully achieved targets of 1 million dollars
in affiliate sales in less than six months. We want you to be
able to do this.

That's a little about us, cant wait to get to know all of you
better.

Keep your eye out for Part 2 on how to get your fre.e website.

To the Online Success You deserve

Nicci And Lee
Internet Strategy Mentors

P.S We are excited for you. We love sharing our passion with
those who want to learn.

002 Wild about Marvick's Wild Limes (Perth, WA)

L-R: Blood lime, desert lime, Sunrise lime, finger lime, all sublime!

(I need a mobile phone camera that can take sharper close ups when the digicam is down south with its owner pruning trees at a friend's farm!)

I can't get my nose out of the finger lime. The rind is incredibly fragrant, like citrisy rosewater (I’m inhaling it as I write, aaahh uplifting!). Break one into half and squeeze out translucent micro pearls for a tangy pop treat.

Desert limes are my favourite. They look like shy nubile green raisins free of worry lines, bursting with a subtle sweetness that makes it too easy to … oops they are all gone now.

Sunrise limes must be the fleshy Aussie cousin of kamquats. Love sinking my teeth into this fresh and healthy orb reminiscent of syrup-preserved mangoes both in taste and texture, sans carcinogenic nitrates.

A blood lime looks like a very intense ruby red grapefruit that has been miniaturised and is not happy about it. It’s the only native Aussie lime of the four that tastes tart, but is still less acid than calamansi lime (which is FABULOUS with sambal belachan and fresh cockles!!!! but I digress). The leathery rind doesn’t have the rosy fragrance of the finger lime, but they’re about the same shade of earthy robust red, like the face of an Aussie bloke after 12 beers.

I braved the cold wind and rain to get the lot from Mark and Vickie's Marvick Native Farms stall at Mt Claremont Farmers Market this morning (at the primary school at the corner of Alfred Road and Mongomery Ave in Mt Claremont) but they are not there every weekend so ring first to check if they will be there or in Fremantle markets that weekend. www.marvicknativefarms.com.au

Sushi@Royal - Her majesty's chicken katsu and delicious Indon secret

I just had to pop in and try the chicken katsu when Nat (member of a respected foodie family hehehee) recommended it via FB.

The first time i went, it was early evening and they were closed. The remarkable thing wasn't that they were closed, but that they didn't just blurt out, "We're closed."

A velvety voice floated across the neat white cafe sprinkled with refreshing lime green highlights and tickled my ears,
"Sorry, m'am, our kitchen is closed, perhaps you would like to come back another time?"

For a split second i felt as if i were in a five-star hotel restaurant, wine glasses tinkling and life jazz pianist tickling the ivories in the background.
I didnt expect someone from a little sushi deli to sound quite so articulate and gracious.

So i did come back, albeit for a really late lunch.

This time Velvety Voice was seated having her own lunch, but when we walked in she stood up immediately and went behind the service counter despite the fact that there were other staff hovering about.

Wow, if the service standard is any indication, I'm really looking forward to the food!

None of the pre-packed sushi boxes in the display case caught my eye, so i said, "What's your most popular dish please?"

"Chicken Katsu."

Aha! Concurred with the recommendation! Happily, I wasn't disappointed.

Loved the generous portion, crispy golden brown batter, warm juicy chicken, fresh tasty sauce, beautiful veggies. Was too engrossed to remember what my friend ate. Forgot the name of Popular Dish #2 which they had sold out. Also forgot the price, definitely below $10. It really is a nice little place for a bite and a chat. Well, I'll just have to come back again, for all that and something else - their Beef Rendang.

Surprisingly, Velvety Voice, whom i later found out was the director of the business Ng Poh-Choo (hey, also from Singapore leh!) recommended Beef Rendang when i asked what else was good there. Not very Japanese, right?!

Apparently an Indonesian lady staff member assisting the Japanese chef has the lobang (connection) for getting authentic Indonesian rempah (spice paste) which goes into their beef rendang slow-cooked for four hours. Mmmmm....

That and a hearty seaweed salad with Japanese ponzu dressing plus some piping hot miso soup would have made my dining experience complete.

Hmm ... not sure if they have that salad. Well, that's another reason for me to pay the queen of chicken katsu another visit at Sushi@Royal, Shop 2, 131 Royal St, East Perth, across the road from TAFE. Tel 9225 7911.

Credit Card Security Tips from an Attorney in NSW

Thanks for forwarding this, CFO! :)

ATTORNEY'S ADVICE (NSW) - NO CHARGE (for a change)

A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company:

1. Next time you order cheques, have only your initials (instead of your first name) and surname put on them. If someone takes your chequebook, they will not know if you sign your cheques with just your initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you sign your cheques.

2.. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put "PHOTO ID REQUIRED".

3. When you are writing cheques to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your cheque as it passes through all the cheque processing channels won't have access to it.

4. Put your work phone number on your cheques instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box, use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your Centrelink Number printed on your cheques. You can add it if it is necessary, but if you have it printed, anyone can get it.

5. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when travelling either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards.

Unfortunately I, an attorney, have first-hand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieves ordered an expensive monthly mobile phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Dell computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information on-line, and more.

But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

1. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately, but the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.

2. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one)..

3. But here's what is perhaps most important of all: (I never even thought to do this.)

Call the three national credit reporting organisations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorise new credit. By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away. This weekend someone handed it in. It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks..

Now, here are some numbers which you might need to contact if your wallet etc has been stolen:
1. Visa Card Australia 1800 621 199
2. Visa Card International 1800 450 346
3. Lost Travellers' Cheques 1800 127 477
4. MasterCard Australia (02) 9466 3700

7. Medicare 132 011
8. Centrelink Fraud 137 230
9. Seniors Card 1300 364 758
10. Passport 131 232
