003 Sure! I love copywriting CVs and Resumes :)

I received this email today

"Hey Alexis,

Not sure if this is up your alley or not, but can you help with a CV?"

Of course I can :)

From one perspective, writing a resume is based on the same communication principles as writing a marketing or promotional piece. In this regard we are promoting you, a valuable human resource, instead of a product or service.

The intention of a CV is to get an interview, and I can:

1) help you write a CV aimed at bringing out your best in terms of what the hirer seeks
2) provide tips on what to do before and after sending the CV
3) Be your informal job search cheerleader! :)

These focused job search strategies have personally helped me land interviews and get the jobs i want ... hmm come to think of it, i have never had to send out mass job applications in my life :)

The most satisfying aspect of resume writing, for me, is helping people articulate and bring out the best in themselves, in words that are meaningful to the hirer.

If you want to be The One, you have to talk to hirers like they are The One. It is totally worth the effort to write a different resume and cover letter for different jobs. Depending on the position you seek, that could mean a 10% tweak or a 90% tweak in your resume! ;)

When my ex-army scholar husband D left an illustrious and highly decorated military career to tackle the business world at the age of 29, his mates thought he was nuts because he was outperforming his peers (and still being liked and respected by them!) and if he had signed that second military contract, we wouldn't have had to worry about money the rest of our lives.

Well, money isn't everything :)

In his new job search in the commercial world, he was concerned about the prevailing view that only one in ten army people do well when they switch, because many companies fail to find military experience relevant in the new work context.

I said, "What are you talking about? You will be that one in ten because you are amazing and there are lots of things we can truthfully say in your resume that will make companies sit up and notice you."

He made it really easy for me to help him write that new resume, because all I did was translate all his military achievements into corporatespeak. The magic words - transferable skills.

So, whether you are in the military or not, it is possible to polish up your resume and make you shine :)
